F1 Rumour: Lewis Hamilton To Sign Two Year Mercedes Contract Extension

It has been rumoured that Lewis Hamilton is set to sign a two-year contract extension with Mercedes.
Speaking ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff explained that although the extension hadn't been formally signed, it has been "emotionally" signed, leaving many questioning what is going on behind the scenes with the contract.
However, as part of the coverage of the race weekend in Budapest, Sky Sports invited some young budding reporters to carry out coverage of the on-track action as well as give them the opportunity to carry out some huge interviews. One of which was able to interview Wolff.
During the interview, Wolff is said to have whispered to the young reporter that the seven-time champion will be extending his contract for two years. However, the reporter then shared that information on live TV.
"So Toto told one of the child reporters of Sky Germany that Lewis will extend his contract for two years.
"Toto [Wolff] said he can‘t say it officially and whispered it to him. The child reporter just said it live now."

Although Hamilton has been with Mercedes for a decade and has won six out of his seven championships with the Brackley-based squad, the delay in announcing the contract extension has raised alarm bells with many fans. There have been rumours of a move to Ferrari or even back to where he started his F1 career with McLaren.
However, both Hamilton and Wolff have remained adamant that the extension is just a formality at this point. The pair have built a strong relationship over the years so it won't come as a surprise when the news is finally formally announced.
