The Mercedes F1 team will be unveiling the highly-anticipated W14 during an event next week on Wednesday 15 February. There has been a huge amount of speculation over what livery the team will go with and it is now rumoured that the upcoming contender will feature a black and silver theme.

Many fans have been calling for the team to return to the all-black livery which they sported in the 2021 season. The team themselves have also been teasing the return of a black livery to social media, and now, according to the Mercedes F1 Motorsports Twitter account:

"The Mercedes AMG W14 E Performance will have a silver x black livery (not full silver or black livery) based on the latest information. The W14 is 12 KG lighter than the W13 currently, also making the car 3KG underweight"

According to the Twitter account the sources are trusted and "very accurate so far", although they do not confirm who the sources are.

Earlier this week, the Mercedes F1 team shared a quote from seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton about why they went for the black livery in 2021. They posted:

As well as leaving the dreaded silver W13 behind, which the team encountered many issues with in 2022, going to a black livery would make a statement after the recent FIA ruling which prohibits drivers from making any personal, religious, or political statements during race weekends.

Hamilton has always used his platform to fight against racism and has fought for increased inclusivity and diversity within the sport. Many drivers have spoken out strongly disagreeing on the ruling.

Although Mercedes have not confirmed the livery yet, and they won't until the event next week, the countdown is on to see what they will come back to the 2023 season with.
