Mick Schumacher has set tongues wagging with his hint of a potential return to the F1 scene after the Canadian Grand Prix. Moreover, he even suggested he is primed to step in and replace another driver midway through the season, leading many to believe he could be replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams in Austria.

Following his departure from Haas in 2022 and subsequent replacement by Nico Hulkenberg, Schumacher has been on Mercedes' reserve roster for the 2023 season. However, he has his sights set on making a full-time comeback by 2024.

During a chat with RTL after the Canadian Grand Prix, Schumacher didn't shy away from addressing the rumours of him possibly replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams. What's more, he confirmed his readiness to take over for a driver during the season. As reported by Sport.de, he shared:

"I'm always ready. Believe me I'm working very hard to hopefully be back in the car soon. We'll see each other very soon. It should be there again next year at the latest."

He expressed his optimism for the future, adding:

"I'm sure something will develop in the near future."

As for the possibility of a mid-season switch, Schumacher said:

"I would do it [replacing a driver mid-season] but It's unlikely that something like that will happen. After all, there are also contracts that are usually kept. Basically, I think that every team is a good option."

At the beginning of this year, Logan Sargeant took a spot on the Williams team. Unfortunately, he remains one of only two drivers who have yet to score any points. His contract with Williams extends to the end of the current season.

Meanwhile, Toto Wolff, CEO and team principal at Mercedes, has been an avid supporter of Schumacher. He has been vocal about standing by the racer in his pursuit of a return to the grid.
