Reddick Rebounds For Loudon Pole After "Unhappy" Practice Session

Tyler Reddick will look to reverse his recent trend of rough luck as he will start from the pole in Sunday's Dollar Tree 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

What a difference an hour made for Tyler Reddick on Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Throughout NASCAR Cup Series practice for Sunday's Dollar Tree 301, the 23XI Racing driver was frustrated with his No. 45 Chumba Casino Toyota Camry.

So frustrated in fact, that Reddick can't recall ever being so heated about his car during a practice session in his career.

"Oh man, I was really unhappy. I can't recall a practice where I've complained like that," Reddick admitted.

However, the frustrations allowed Reddick's team, led by crew chief Billy Scott to know what they need to work on ahead of Sunday's race.

"But yeah, I think we just figured out what we need to work on. Obviously, we have our things we want to work on for Sunday's race," Reddick explained.

While Reddick's team feels they now have a good direction for their race trim setup for Sunday's race, incredibly, Reddick will fire off from the pole position in Sunday's race after clocking in faster than everyone else in Saturday's qualifying session.

Reddick was only 31st-fastest in single-lap speed in practice earlier in the afternoon, but the driver wasn't worried about that heading into qualifying, as he felt he never got a chance at a clean mock-qualifying run.

Knowing his car had grip in practice, but not knowing the extent of how fast it could be in one single qualifying lap, Reddick sent it in qualifying and hoped for the best.

"We just didn't get a great opportunity in practice to lay down a lap in clean air. The short run didn't seem really that bad. We didn't have the lap, but the grip seemed there. So, I kind of committed," Reddick said. "It's like, I've got to qualify good. I don't want to do what we did at Richmond and start in the 30s."

The gamble to send it paid off as Reddick snagged his fifth pole position of the season with a 29.054-second (131.094 mph) lap time. Reddick was able to capture the pole by a margin of 0.015 seconds over Josh Berry, who narrowly missed the pole position.

William Byron will start on the inside of Row 2, and he'll be joined by Denny Hamlin, the NASCAR Cup Series point leader.

Shane van Gisbergen, Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, and Alex Bowman rounded out the top-10 qualifiers for Sunday's Dollar Tree 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
