New York Liberty Fans Shocked By Ticket Price Increases

The New York Liberty have become a hot ticket, and thus now an expensive one. But that didn't come without some season ticket holders caught completely off guard by a massive price increase.

X user theillenial posted a screenshot of what was said to be a renewal invoice for next year received from the team. The price in the photo is listed at $8,910, which is followed by a subsequent image of the same charge from this season priced at $4,800. Of course, if accurate, that would be nearly double the cost from one season to the next.

The account above was not the only one to claim a similar increase, as many Liberty fans were taken aback at the hike in prices.

My Liberty season ticket price DOUBLED for next year. I could look to see if I could move but I’m kinda just turned off by the whole thing and will likely cancel. Sad.

The team did announce that the cost to get into Barclays Center would go up, citing a 130% increase in season ticket membership and increased demand overall. Liberty CEO Keia Clarke was quoted saying, “This is market demand 101 and it’s really the surge in popularity of this league. Paying attention to what consumers were willing to pay in the secondary, and in the primary, is really the driver of where we are in this moment.”

The N.Y. Liberty informed season ticket holders of a significant price increase for the 2025 season.

Fans who had season tickets for more than three years were supposed to have price increases capped at 25%. So the examples above must not have fallen into said category if initial reports were correct.

Overall attendance for the team is up 64% as supporters have been flocking to see the number one team in the WNBA.

And the Liberty boast star power on the court that is arguably worth the hefty price of admission. With Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones leading the way. Not to mention the most inconic mascot in the league in Big Ellie.

However, it still came as a shock to some consumers to see the elephant sized increase in cost, given yesterday's price is not today's price for the Liberty.
