Chunky athleisure sneakers have become quite trendy in the last couple years. If you are looking for a versatile option you can wear for everything from everyday walks to a light workout to running errands, the adidas Ozweego could be a fantastic choice. This shoe has a leather upper with a thick EVA foam sole so it is both comfortable and stylish for everyday wear.

While adidas running shoes are already quite well-known (like the Ultraboost, Ultrabounce and Ultra 4D) adidas also has quite a few athleisure styles—like the Samba and Gazelle—that are a fashion staple for many. One new and stylish option you may not be as familiar with is the adidas Ozweego. This shoe has a taller profile and thicker sole, which provides more cushioning, making it a great choice for frequent walkers.

Still not sure if this is this shoe for you? We tested the Ozweego for ourselves and wrote an in-depth review with everything you need to know to make your purchasing decision. Below, check out the key features and what to consider before buying this shoe.

Key Features:

Adidas Ozweego (3)
  • Price: $120 (colorways often on sale)
  • Colors: 4 women’s, 4 men’s
  • Size: 5–11 women’s, 6–4 men’s
  • Best for: Casual daily wear

The adidas Ozweego evokes 90s style, all in a light, comfortable package. This shoe is on the chunkier side and definitely embraces the whole dad-sneaker vibe without all the weight. It’s great for everything from walking the dog to booking it across city streets. Plus, it’s only $120, which is a pretty affordable price for a leather shoe when it comes to sneakers.

What We Like:

This shoe is super versatile. It’s great for walkers, everyday wear and even some light workouts. It has a super soft midsole made with Adiprene and cushioning that keeps it both lightweight and super plush. The shoes fit snug to the foot so you won’t feel like you are going to step out of them, and they come in a range of neutral colors that are easy to pair with your favorite pieces.

What To Consider:

The main issue with this shoe has been with sizing—there is quite a bit of contention between reviewers and our own testing when it comes to fit and sizing. Many found that the shoe ran large and suggested that people buy a half- to a full-size down. We personally found that the shoe fit closer to true-to-size, so when our tester chose a 9.5 over her typical 10 the shoe fit a bit too snug. Because of this, you may want to order more than one to make sure that you get the correct fit.

Another thing to consider with this shoe is that it has a leather upper, which means that it won’t stretch as much as a mesh upper, and will trap heat easier. If your feet tend to run a bit hot and sweaty, this shoe may have you overheating—but it can also be a great choice for wet, chilly weather as it keeps out wind and water better than a mesh sneaker, and you can treat it for water repellency.

Who Should Buy adidas Ozweego Sneakers

If you are looking for a fashionable but comfortable sneaker, the Ozweego could be a great option for you. This is definitely more of a fashion sneaker than a workout one, but it can still be used for some light workouts—and it makes an excellent choice for long walks.

Since these shoes have a leather upper, they are a great option for colder weather, especially compared to a sneaker with a mesh upper; the thick sole also props you up a bit, keeping your feet out of mud, water and slush.

Since these come in a range of neutral colors, they pair easily with many outfits, and the modern-retro blend design lets you dress it up a bit, or wear it in a more athleisure setting.

Our Experience with the adidas Ozweego

Adidas Ozweego (2)

“I am between a 9.5 and 10.5, usually I wear a 9.5 or 10 for lifestyle shoes and a 10.5 for athletic shoes, so ordering shoes online can be somewhat frustrating," our tester Jordan Smith said. ”I went with a 9.5 here based on previous reviews and they were slightly too small.”

Smith often finds herself having to try multiple sizes of any sneaker she tries to buy, so if you can’t try this on in store, she suggests buying a couple sizes to find the right fit. She also noted that the leather felt as though it would stretch a bit, but not enough to comfortably wear the shoes at this size.

As far as wearing goes, she found them to be a great shoe for airport travel—they gave enough support when she needed to hustle to her next gate during a tight connection, but she tends to run hot so the leather did have her feet feeling a little toasty when she got to her destination. Overall, the shoes were comfortable and offered more support than a typical athleisure shoe.

Customer Reviews

Customers found these shoes to be both comfortable and stylish once they received their order. Many found that the shoes were quite versatile and worked for both everyday wear and workouts like a short run. They also noted that most shoes appeared as they do on the website in real life, and that the quality of materials was excellent. The issue seems to be with sizing: While many customers found that the shoes ran large, in our own personal testing—and according to some reviewers—they ran on the small side. Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit of a gamble in the sizing area, so you may have to try a couple sizes to get your perfect fit.

adidas Ozweego FAQs

Are Ozweegos good for standing all day?

These are a pretty good option for spending a day on your feet. They are pretty light so they won’t feel like they are weighing you down, and they have a thick EVA midsole which is comfortable, cushioned and shock-absorbing.

Are Ozweegos good for walking?

These are a great option for walking—especially if you are looking for a more casual shoe to wear while pounding the pavement or exploring a new city.

Should I size up in adidas?

Many adidas shoes be a bit tricky in the sizing department. Our testers have found that sometimes they have to size up a half-size for shoes that are made for athletics and size down a half-size for more casual athleisure shoes. For these, we actually recommend either going with your true size or sizing up a half-size if you are between sizes, as they tend to run a tad bit small and the leather upper won’t stretch much.

Are the Ozweegos good for wide feet?

Ozweegos do not come in a wide, so they may not be the best for super wide feet, but most of adidas’ shoes are made on a single last for both men and women which means that they run slightly wider than most shoes.

Are Ozweegos breathable?

While they aren’t suffocating, these shoes do have a leather upper, so they are not going to be quite as breathable as most running and walking shoes which opt for mesh. Our tester found that they were good for walking and casual wear, but her feet felt toasty on a warmer fall day.

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a new pair of everyday sneakers, the Ozweego is a great option. Light, supportive and comfortable, they will keep your feet happy while walking all day, and are a great way to spice up a boring outfit. At only $120 (and often on sale for much less), they are pretty affordable, and the leather upper keeps your feet cozy in the winter months. Still not sure if they are right for you?
