Regardless of what size iPhone 13 you have — 13 Mini, 13, 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max — it's important to protect that shiny new smartphone. While the phone offers vibrant colors and a sleek design, it’s also made of glass and other materials that aren’t indestructible.

With quite literally thousands of cases to possibly pick from, it’s the chance to show off your personality--and ensure that an accidental drop won't shatter your phone screen.

I’ve spent the last nine months with the entire iPhone 13 family and putting various cases to the test. And now I’m sharing my favorites so that you can find the best case for your iPhone 13 Mini, 13, 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max.

One important note: Unlike the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, which were basically interchangeable with cases, the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro feature different sized camera bumps on the back. Meaning that an iPhone 13 case won’t fit a 13 Pro and an iPhone 13 Pro case won’t fit a 13. So make sure to shop for your device specifically!

A Fun Pop of Color: Apple iPhone Silicone Cases ($49.99; amazon.com or bestbuy.com)

If you’re just after a basic case, you really can’t go wrong with Apple’s Silicone option. Facing the world is a smooth silicone in the color of your choosing, while the inside is a light microfiber which snuggly fits your iPhone and keeps the back in pretty good shape. Apple’s Silicone cases support MagSafe — essentially a set of magnets on the back of your iPhone and another set in the case that make it easy to attach your device to a compatible accessory. That could be the MagSafe Battery Pack, which snaps to the back of your phone to keep it powered longer, or a MagSafe capable wireless charger. Regardless of which iPhone you have, Apple’s Silicone Case costs $49.99 and comes in a bevy of shades.

Gets Better With Time: Nomad Modern Leather Case ($65.95; nomadgoods.com)

Editors Note: Right now, you can save 30% across Nomad's entire product lineup including the Modern Leather case

No I’m not joking — Nomad’s leather cases aren’t just made incredibly well, but they get better with time as the leather will naturally age and eventually patina. The Modern Leather Case continues this promise in three shades — Rustic Brown, Black or Natural — for all four iPhone 13s.

The cases provide 10-feet of drop protection, supports MagSafe and gives you easy access to the Lightning port on the bottom of the device. The Modern Leather Case is made with a TPE bumper that acts as the frame, and the Horween Leather is sourced from the United States.

Eco-Friendly Option: Organicore ($39.99; amazon.com)

Incipio’s Organicore line debuted a few years back and is still going strong with a few different styles. We're highlighting the classic Organicore option which is an entirely compostable case. Rather than sitting in a landfill once you’ve upgraded and gone onto your next phone, this case can be recycled.

This case is made from plants and offers a molded soft texture feel that will keep your device protected on all sides, including a raised lip around the screen and the camera module on the back. While this doesn’t have the MagSafe rings, it does still let you wirelessly charge with the case on.

Extra Protection: Casetify Crush Case (starting at $50; casetify.com)

If you love your iPhone color and don't want to "cover" it up, this option from Casetify has a clear back that doesn’t get dirty or yellow from prolonged use. The case also has a secure bumper frame to protect your device from up to 6.6-foot drops. And this case is made from 65% recycled and plant based materials, including some older phone cases that have been recycled. This way you can feel good about the case and its materials, but also know it’s protecting your phone.

We especially like the look of the frame on this one and the raised lip all around. You can even customize the frame color, opt for a rear panel color and emboss it with the text of your choosing.

  • Casetify Impact Crush Case, iPhone 13 Mini ($50; casetify.com)
  • Casetify Impact Crush Case, iPhone 13 ($55; casetify.com)
  • Casetify Impact Crush Case, iPhone 13 Pro ($60; casetify.com)
  • Casetify Impact Crush Case, iPhone 13 Pro Max ($65; casetify.com)

A Colorful Trip: Tie-Dye Case  ($40; casely.com)

The aptly named “Tie Dying Over You Purple Marble'' case is exactly what it sounds like. Hues of purple clash in a pretty epic swirl on the back of your iPhone through a case that features raised lips, MagSafe charging and eight feet of drop protection. Additionally, each corner features air pockets which act as cushioning if you drop your phone. The side grips also have some ribbing.

The Best Thin Option: Totallee iPhone Case ($39; amazon.com)

Totallee is known for offering really thin, durable cases that don’t necessarily provide an extreme amount of protection. Their latest case adds in a thicker bumper, a clear back and a MagSafe ring for a pretty great package for your iPhone 13. It lets the true color of the device shine through and allows you take advantage of a MagSafe charger or accessory. It’s also free of any extra branding and adds just 0.3-inches of thickness at most to your iPhone. It’s a terrifically simple thin case.

  • Totallee Clear Hybrid Case with MagSafe, iPhone 13 Pro ($24.99, originally $39; amazon.com)
  • Totallee Clear Hybrid Case with MagSafe, iPhone 13 Pro Max ($24.99, originally $39; amazon.com)

Nomad Sport Case: a Modern Option ($39.95; nomadgoods.com)

Editors Note: Right now, you can save 30% across Nomad's entire product lineup including the Sport Case

With this case, Nomad trades its tried and true Horween Leather for a hard glossy back in a similarly durable TPE frame. It provides up to six feet of drop protection, supports MagSafe and wireless charging, and features aluminum buttons all around. It’s both high-end and sleek, and I really like the Lunar Gray and Marine Blue color options for this one. It provides protection against drops (trust me on that), is easy to grip while using or just carrying your device, and feels like the complete package.

Fun Movie Choices: Casetify Tatooine Binary Sunset Case (starting at $50; casetify.com)

If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting the Skywalker Farm on Tatooine or just want to go to a galaxy far, far away, Casetify’s Star Wars Co-Lab is perfect. The Tatooine Binary Sunset case not only protects your iPhone and is made from compostable materials—but it features the twin suns that the fantasy planet is famous for. It’s a vibrant hue that will add a pop of color and bring a smile to your face. And no, it’s not a Jedi mind trick, but in fact that’s Luke Skywalker on the back of your phone.

  • Casetify Tatooine Binary Sunset Case, iPhone 13 Mini ($50; casetify.com)
  • Casetify Tatooine Binary Sunset Case, iPhone 13 ($55; casetify.com)
  • Casetify Tatooine Binary Sunset Case, iPhone 13 Pro ($60; casetify.com)
  • Casetify Tatooine Binary Sunset Case, iPhone 13 Pro Max ($65; casetify.com)

Protection Paired With Works of Art: The Met x Casetify (casetify.com)

Like the Crush Case above, these Casetify cases opt for a secure frame that provides a similar over six feet protection against drops. But rather than a clear back, these are decked out with some famous works of art since this “Co-Lab” is with the The Metropolitan Museum of Art. You can opt for a design inspired by Vincent Van Goh or Claude Monet, but can also opt for the incision “MET” letterboxed logo.
