BREAKING: FSU Football Makes Late Addition To #Tribe24 With Pledge Of Four-Star Defensive End
Florida State made it a priority to flip its defensive end room through the transfer portal and high school ranks after losing star pass-rusher Jared Verse to the NFL following the season. The effort has paid off as the coaching staff once again possesses a group of capable edge defenders entering the spring.
On Saturday afternoon, the Seminoles continued to stack up talent as four-star defensive end Amaree Williams announced his pledge to the program. He chose FSU over Miami, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina, Michigan, USC, Penn State, Alabama, Oregon, and Kentucky.
The decision doesn't come as a major surprise as Williams' only trip since his reclassification to the 2024 class in December was an official visit to Tallahassee. Florida State had to continue to work down the stretch after he chose not to sign with a school during the Early Signing Period. The juice was worth the squeeze as they've now secured one of the top uncommitted recruits who was left leading up to National Signing Day on February 7.
The Florida native starred on both sides of the ball for The Benjamin School. He recorded 34 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception on defense while catching 16 passes for 424 yards and seven touchdowns on offense during his junior season. A year earlier, Williams totaled 40 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks. His father was a third-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 1996 and spent ten seasons in the NFL.
Williams joins a defensive end room that includes redshirt senior Sione Lolohea, redshirt junior Patrick Payton, redshirt junior Jaden Jones, junior Marvin Jones Jr., redshirt sophomore Tomiwe Durojaiye, redshirt freshman Lamont Green Jr., and true freshman DD Holmes. He will probably spend most of his first season with the Seminoles developing and building his frame.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defensive end is regarded as the No. 183 overall prospect, the No. 7 ATH, and the No. 21 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
