BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — It took six games for Stevie Scott to finally get a 100-yard game, and he did it in a big way Saturday in the 35-0 rout over Rutgers at Memorial Stadium.

The sophomore from Syracuse has been patient, and it paid off in a big way Saturday. He had 164 yards on 12 carries and he also broke a couple of long runs, which everyone has been waiting for.

Indiana coach Tom Allen said he's talked with Scott a lot all season and "he always says 'I'm good, I'm good.'' And he has been He knew good things were coming.

Part of it is everyone getting used to Kalen DeBoer's new offense. The passing game — especially the short perimeter game that often replaces runs — has been clicking, so the emphasis on Scott being the go-to guy hasn't been necessary.

"I just told him to be patient,'' Allen said.

After gaining 1,137 yards as a freshman, big things were expected from Scott this year. He had six games of 100 yards or more last year, so it was nice to finally see it clicking.

Here's what he has done on the ground so far this year.

  • Indiana vs. Ball State — 19 carries, 48 yards, 2 touchdowns
  • Indiana vs. Eastern Illinois — 12 carries, 61 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Indiana vs. Ohio State — 6 carries, 9 yards
  • Indiana vs. Connecticut — 21 carries, 97 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Indiana vs. Michigan State — 18 carries, 66 yards
  • Indiana vs. Rutgers — 12 carries, 164 yards
