Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Ryan Day Reacts to News of Jeremiah Smith Signing

Now that they hit the jackpot, the Ohio State Buckeyes can breath a huge sigh of relief, just like their head coach did in the middle of Wednesday's press conference.

Ohio State secured a signature from consensus No. 1 player in the 2024 class and five-star Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Opa Locka, Fla.) receiver Jeremiah Smith during the early signing period on Wednesday, and coach Ryan Day jokingly acted like he was fainting at the podium when he was told the news.

Day didn't comment on Smith while he was at the mic, as he and the Ohio State SID had to check first to make sure the signing was official.

Take a look:

Smith is the No. 1 overall player in the country on 247Sports' rankings, where his scouting report calls him "one of the top overall prospects to come out of South Florida in the modern recruiting era." This is saying something considering the talent that the area has produced over the years.

He committed to the Buckeyes e on (), but the Florida native was deciding between Miami and Ohio State up until the waning moments of announcing. It was hardly a forgone conclusion that he would be a Buckeye, and Day's reaction certainly confirms that.

Smith finished his high school career with 177 catches for 3,116 yards and 46 touchdowns.
