Baseball season is drawing nearer, which means it is the perfect time to start looking ahead and seeing what teams could make some noise in the 2024 season. Perfect Game released their preseason top 25 on Friday, where Oklahoma State was ranked 22nd, one of four Big 12 teams included on the list. Some other Big 12 teams on the list are TCU at 5th, Texas at 8th, and Kansas State at 20th.

The Pokes went 41-20 last season, with a 15-9 conference record. That was enough to help them finish second in the Big 12 in regular season play. They made it all the way to the championship game in the Big 12 tournament, where they lost to TCU 12-5.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys would fall short in the regionals, losing to both Oral Roberts (4-6) and Dallas Baptist (4-18). Although the season did not end how many wanted, there is still plenty of reason for optimism.

The Cowboys have four returning players who appeared in over 40 games and maintained a batting average over .300. Nolan Schubart will arguably be the best bat returning for the 2024 season, as last year he ended with a batting average of .338, while also hitting 17 homers and driving in 74 runs, which was the most on the team.

They bring back a bit of experience in the pitching department as well. There are 124 innings of experience returning to the Pokes in 2024, and that is not including the haul of transfers they brought in this offseason.

They did lose their top three pitchers in terms of innings pitched, which could be a worry. However, as I mentioned earlier they landed several transfer pitchers with experience, so we will have to see how they perform in Stillwater this upcoming season.
