The Oklahoma State football program has started the season out 2-2, one of their worst starts in some time. The last time they began 2-2, they finished the season out in a bowl game. Same for the time prior to that. The season isn't lost, though some Cowboys fans may be feeling that way.

With the lack of expected success, fans have gotten impatient and upset with the way things are run by head coach Mike Gundy, though he retains confidence from Oklahoma State Athletic Director Chad Weiberg.

“I know there is a high expectation and that is good. That is exactly what we want,” Weiberg said in a radio interview this week. “You know the last couple of games didn’t meet the expectation and that is what creates the angst and the displeasure, whatever you want to call it."

Coming into the season, the expectations weren't huge for this Oklahoma State football team, but they were above this. It would've shocked no one if the Cowboys were 4-0 at this point in the season and shaping up to be a top Big 12 team this season. However, they're 2-2 and seem lost in a few aspects.

"I know I’ve been taking a lot of advice, a fair amount," Weiberg continued. "Again, all of that is good because what that says is that we have a passionate fan base that cares and that is a credit to the job Coach Gundy has done for the last 19 years at Oklahoma State. He has raised the bar and the level of expectations.”

Given the nature of the team's bowl game streak, there is an expectation for this team, at minimum, to win more than six games and have a winning record. As Weiberg referred to, Gundy has raised the bar and expectation, and now he's expected to pull through to qualify for a bowl game.

“There is nobody that wants to win more than he does, more than the coaches in the West End Zone, and more than the players in the West End Zone,” Weiberg said. “I know they are working very hard in this off week and will continue to work hard for K-State and the games we play after that. Everybody is well aware of what the expectations are and working hard to meet those expectations.”

Evidently, Gundy is a good coach. He wouldn't hold the bowl streak and overall record he does without being a good coach. There is plenty of season left to play, and the best Gundy can do is show promise for next season while qualifying for a bowl game. Getting hot on the recruiting trail will be huge, too, as landing big recruits could do a lot for the program as the Big 12 enters a new era.
