Former Oklahoma State three-sport athlete Dick Soergel passed away in the final week of 2023. Soergel played football, baseball, and basketball at Oklahoma State, lettering in all three sports.

Soergel graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1956 and chose to go to Oklahoma State. Across all sports, Soergel's teams had a combined record of 125-55. He was inducted into the Oklahoma State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998, as well as the Oklahoma State Hall of Honor in 1999.

In three seasons at Oklahoma State, Soergel passed for 2,226 yards and 19 touchdowns. During his time with the program, the Cowboys went 20-10 with a Blue Grass Bowl victory over the Florida State Seminoles in 1958. In his final year with the program, Soergel passed for 1,102 yards, good enough for 10th in the country. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 1960 NFL Draft.

Basketball Career

Soergel played in 63 games over the course of his basketball career, averaging 5.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. The Pokes would go 49-31 in Soergel's time with the team, and in 1958, the Cowboys would make it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

Baseball Career

Baseball was arguably Soergel's best sport. Oklahoma State would go 56-14 in Soergel's time with the team. They won the national championship in 1959, defeating Arizona 5-3 to take the crown. Soergel pitched 5 1/3 innings in the championship game. He earned All-Big Eight as well as All-American honors in his final season with the Cowboys.
