Oklahoma State Position Group Recap: Tight Ends

The last offensive position group we take look at and grade is the tight ends for the Cowboys in the 2023 season.

A group that had success in one area struggled in the other area.

That is a sentence that would describe the Oklahoma State tight ends in 2023.

While they didn't do much in the passing game for the Cowboys, the position was a vital part in the Ollie Gordon and the Cowboy's rushing attack.

For our final offensive position group recap, we take a look at the tight ends and how they did this season.

Overall: B-

You have to take into consideration how the tight ends played a factor in the running game, especially after the first three games in the season.

But, they have to produce in the passing game. The tight ends, which was only Josiah Johnson, accounted for 22 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown this season.

Johnson used his last year of eligibility in 2023 and is entering the NFL Draft, but head coach Mike Gundy already found his replacement for the 2024 season.

Gundy and OSU grabbed Ohio tight end Tyler Foster out of the transfer portal this offseason, and he will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Fosters in two seasons with Ohio had 33 receptions for 396 yards and four touchdowns. His best season came in 2022 when he collected 13 catches for 185 yards and four touchdowns with the Bobcats that season.

Foster won't be the only tight end returning for the Cowboys in 2024. Quinton Stewart, Tabry Shettron and Bryce Drummond are all set to play for the Cowboys next season.

With a room full of players that know the system; someone other than Foster will have to step up as well this season for OSU.

Shettron could be a bright spot in the passing game if they choose to use him.

In 2020 with Edmond Santa Fe, Shettron had 19 receptions, and six of them went for touchdowns.

With spring ball in March, OSU will have enough in the position group to have success in the 2024 season.
