#11 Ole Miss vs. #10 Penn State Prediction, Picks & Betting Odds Today

The stage is set for an epic clash today in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA, as the Ole Miss Rebels prepare to face off against the Penn State Nittany Lions with kickoff scheduled for 12 PM ET. Both teams had successful regular seasons, but they couldn’t take the next step and win their respective divisions. However, a Peach Bowl victory would be a great way to end the season, so I broke down the matchup and made an Ole Miss vs. Penn State prediction.

Ole Miss vs. Penn State Prediction for Today's College Football Game on ESPN: 2023 Peach Bowl

Ole Miss enters today's game with a 10-2 record and is eager to cap off their successful campaign with a Peach Bowl victory. The Rebels have one of the best offenses in the country, averaging 34.8 points per game with a balanced attack at averages of 276.6 passing yards and 179.0 rushing yards per contest.

The story isn't too different for Penn State, as they carry an identical 10-2 record and average 37.2 points per game with 204.3 passing yards and 186.7 rushing yards per contest. Although they fell short of a Big Ten title game due to losses against Michigan and Ohio State, the Nittany Lions were one of the best teams in the country this season and carry a defense that can hang with anyone.

Penn State is poised to make an impact with a reliable ground game featuring RBs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, supplemented by the strategic use of tight ends to advance the ball. In an ideal scenario, we might witness QB Drew Allar operating more comfortably across the entire field, connecting with wide receivers like Omari Evans, Kaden Saunders and others who are likely to make their mark in the upcoming fall season.

Defensively, the Rebels have conceded 22.3 points and 371.9 total yards per game. With 34 sacks and 12 interceptions, Ole Miss has proven to be a formidable force on the defensive side of the ball. On the flip side, the Nittany Lions claimed the top spot in total defense, allowing a mere 223.2 yards per game. Penn State's remarkable turnover margin of plus-18 leads the nation, while Ole Miss is tied for 12th with a plus-9 margin.

It's worth noting that Nittany Lions All-Big Ten defensive end Chop Robinson has opted out for today's game, and six other players who declared for the NFL Draft might see limited reps. Meanwhile, Ole Miss' only major absence is defensive end Cedric Johnson, who accounted for 5.5 of his 19 career sacks this season.

A victory in the Peach Bowl would mark a historic achievement for Penn State, making them the first school to win all of the New Year's Six bowls. The Nittany Lions are entering the Peach Bowl for the first time, setting the stage for a thrilling debut against the Rebels.

Ole Miss vs. Penn State Picks & Best Bets Featuring Penn State +4.5 (-115 at FanDuel)

Penn State -4.5 (-115 at FanDuel) is my main Ole Miss vs. Penn State prediction, and the primary factor influencing my choice is their elite defense. It's worth noting that Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz will not coach today after accepting the head coaching position at Duke, but this defense has enough veterans that we shouldn't see too much of a difference.

Ole Miss undoubtedly boasts considerable offensive talent, and they are likely to find success in moving the ball, potentially surpassing the achievements of most, if not all, of their opponents this season. The depth in their receiving corps poses a challenge for even a skilled secondary, and the dynamic abilities of Judkins on the ground, coupled with Dart's mobility, can frustrate the opposing defense.

However, my confidence lies in the Nittany Lions' defense, which has consistently upheld an exceptionally high standard throughout the season. With playmakers distributed across all three levels, their disciplined approach to playing as a cohesive unit often results in someone being strategically positioned to make a play, provided everyone stays focused and wins their individual matchups.

Penn State was 9-3 against the spread this season, and head coach James Franklin always seems to cover against teams not named Michigan and Ohio State. Therefore, I'd recommend backing the Nittany Lions -4.5 (-115 at FanDuel) in today's Peach Bowl.
