UMass vs. #6 Penn State Prediction, NCAAF Picks & Odds: Saturday, 10/14

USATSI_21538152

The Penn State Nittany Lions are coming off a bye week and will welcome the UMass Minutemen for a Saturday afternoon game. Saturday marks the annual homecoming game for the Nittany Lions, and I anticipate a rocking crowd at Beaver Stadium. Although PSU will take on #3 Ohio State next Saturday, James Franklin will have his team focused and ready to roll after receiving an extra week of preparation.

In this article, I’ll break down my UMass vs. Penn State prediction, which you can use to unlock a $1,500 new-user bonus from BetMGM Sportsbook. Although the Nittany Lions ruined my perfect record with two late fourth-quarter TDs against Northwestern, my Penn State picks are 3-1 after nailing my best bets in their games against West Virginia, Illinois and Iowa. So, make sure you join BetMGM and use my best bet this Saturday!

UMass Minutemen vs. Penn State Nittany Lions Prediction: CFB This Week

Saturday’s matchup between UMass and Penn State features two programs on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Minutemen are 1-6 this season after falling to Toledo 41-24 last weekend. Their offense has done enough to win, but they cannot stop opposing offenses whatsoever. UMass averages 26.1 points per game (84th in the country) and has scored 14+ points every game this season.

Although the visitors haven’t faced a defense like Penn State’s, I think they should be able to score 10+ points this Saturday. The Nittany Lions' biggest weakness on defense is their rush defense, and the Minutemen average 142.7 rushing yards per game (87th in the country), so we think the visitors can put together a few drives to score double-digit points. Additionally, the Nittany Lions could blow this game open, which would help UMass in the fourth quarter going against PSU’s backups.

For Penn State, this game is all about staying focused and ensuring they secure a comfortable victory in front of their homecoming crowd. QB Sam Allar has this offense humming, as the Nittany Lions have scored 30+ points for the first five games of the season for the first time since 1994-95.

The running back duo of Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton already has eight touchdowns on the ground, and Allar is yet to throw an interception. The bye week will have the Nittany Lions licking their chops as they prepare to go up against a UMass defense that has allowed 30 points or more in six of their seven games.

UMass vs. Penn State Picks & NCAAF Best Bets for Saturday Including Over 56.5 (-115 at BetMGM)

My main UMass vs. Penn State prediction for Saturday is for the game to finish with Over 56.5 points (-115 at BetMGM). The Minutemen’s defense shouldn’t be able to slow down PSU’s attack, as they allowed 41 points to Toledo last week and have given up 52 points to Arkansas State, 41 to Miami Ohio and 59 to Auburn. Penn State’s offense averages 40.6 PPG (10th in the country) and could easily surpass 50 points on their own this Saturday.

So long as UMass can score 10 points, surpassing Over 56.5 points (-115 at BetMGM) should be a breeze. The Nittany Lions put up 63 against Delaware earlier this year at Beaver Stadium, and although UMass’ defense is better than Delaware’s, we still think they’ll have no answers for Allar and company.
