Virginia Explodes for 26 Runs in Blowout Win at George Washington

The Cavaliers scored 26 runs on 24 hits and crushed the Revolutionaries 26-12 on Wednesday afternoon in Arlington

A program-record seven different Cavaliers hit a home run and No. 13 Virginia (12-1) scored 26 runs on 24 hits and eight total home runs to rout George Washington (7-5) 26-12 on Wednesday afternoon in Arlington.

UVA scored four runs in the top of the first inning and eight in the second to take control of the game early on, but the Cavaliers kept it coming offensively with five runs in the fifth and six more in the seventh. Griff O'Ferrall, Henry Ford, and Henry Godbout had four RBI each and six different Cavaliers had multiple hits in the game, headlined by Eric Becker with five hits. Henry Ford hit two home runs and O'Ferrall, Godbout, Jacob Ference, Luke Hanson, Casey Saucke, and Harrison Didawick each homered as well, with Godbout's long ball clearing the bases for his first-career grand slam in the second inning.

It wasn't nearly as good of a day for the Cavaliers on the mound, as the Revolutionaries scored 12 runs on 16 hits. Ryan Osinski was credited with the win as he gave up one earned run in 2.1 innings of work. Dean Kampschror and Jack O'Connor both tossed scoreless innings out of the bullpen and combined to strike out five batters. UVA's pitching staff recorded 13 strikeouts in the game.

Virginia will open ACC play this weekend as the Cavaliers travel to take on Miami in a three-game series. Game 1 is set for Friday at 7pm, game 2 will start at 6pm on Saturday, and the finale will begin at 1pm on Sunday with all three games streamed on ACC Network Extra.
