When the defending champion Denver Nuggets open training camp for the 2023-2024 NBA season in October, there will be a host of Virginia men's basketball players present hoping to earn their spot on the roster. Just one day after officially announcing that they had signed Jay Huff and Braxton Key to two-way contracts, the Nuggets announced that they signed Armaan Franklin to a training camp contract on Wednesday.

Franklin was limited to just two games during the NBA Summer League due to injury and averaged 3.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game in those two contests. But despite not getting a big chance to prove himself in Las Vegas, the Nuggets are still giving Franklin an opportunity to show his worth in training camp, a testament to the belief Denver has in Franklin's potential as an NBA player.

In his fourth season of college basketball - and second at Virginia - Franklin averaged a career-high 12.4 points per game to go along with 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. After shooting 29.6% from three in his first season at UVA after transferring from Indiana, Franklin improved his perimeter shooting drastically and shot 37.3% from beyond the arc this season. Franklin was the leading scorer for a Virginia team that captured a share of the ACC regular season title and was named to the ACC All-Tournament Second Team after helping the Cavaliers reach the ACC Championship Game.

NBA teams are permitted to carry 15 players on standard contracts during the season and three players on two-way contracts. With the Nuggets signing Braxton Key, Jay Huff, and Collin Gillespie to two-way deals this week, it might be difficult for Armaan Franklin to work his way onto the roster, but he can still earn a spot on Denver's G League affiliate, which would carry an additional bonus, and set himself up for a more significant role later on, either with the Nuggets or with another NBA team.
