Former Wahoo Mike Scott Named Finals MVP, Wins BSN Championship in Puerto Rico
Even after his playing days in the NBA have come to an end, former Virginia men's basketball star Mike Scott is proving that he can still play, and win, at a high level in professional basketball. Less than two months after signing with the Gigantes de Carolina, a Puerto Rican professional basketball team playing in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), Scott led his team to its first-ever BSN Championship and was named the MVP of the Championship.
After ending his Virginia career as a First-Team All-ACC selection in 2012, Scott went on to have a successful 10-year career in the NBA, playing for the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. Scott went to play in France in 2022 and then joined Gigantes de Carolina in Puerto Rico in late May.
In 25 games this season, Scott averaged 21.8 points and 9.4 rebounds and shot 40.3% from three, showing that he is still a more than capable scorer at 35 years old. Scott played his best basketball in the postseason and averaged 24.6 points per game in the finals against Bayamon. That included a 35-point showing in game 1 and a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double in the championship-clinching game 5 victory.
He might be in the final few years of his basketball career, but former Cavalier Mike Scott just proved he has plenty left in the tank.
