WVU Claims Spot in Top 3 for Safety DeShawn Stewart Following Visit

New Jersey defensive back recaps his visit to Morgantown.

West Virginia hosted dozens of high school recruits last weekend, one of which was class of 2025 safety DeShawn Stewart (6'2", 185 lbs) of DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, New Jersey.

"My visit was absolutely great," Stewart told Mountaineers Now. "One of my biggest takeaways were how the coaches were so fluent with talking to us about anything and everything. The conversations didn’t feel forced or weird. It was perfect. It made me feel wanted at the school.

The lead recruiter for Stewart, defensive line coach Andrew Jackson, already extended an invite for him to return in the spring to take in a practice. A date for that visit is to be determined.

Stewart's list of offers currently consist of Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Liberty, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, UMass, and Virginia Tech in addition to WVU. At the moment, Stewart says West Virginia sits inside his top three alongside Cincinnati and Penn State. A decision will be made at the end of spring/early summer.

This past season, Stewart recorded 56 tackles and 19 passes defended.
