Sources: Indiana Pacers to waive Cory Joseph, Furkan Korkmaz

The Pacers acquired both players on Thursday

The Indiana Pacers will be waiving guard Cory Joseph and wing Forkan Korkmaz, league sources told AllPacers. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report both moves.

Both players were acquired by Indiana on Thursday just before the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline. Korkmaz came to the Pacers in the trade that sent Buddy Hield to Philadelphia while Joseph was acquired in a smaller, financially-motivated trade.

"We're not just building a team for this year. We have a longer-range vision," Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said of his team's moves on Thursday.

Neither player received a buyout, so their cap hit will be on the Pacers' books for the rest of the season. For Korkmaz, that number is about $5.4 million while for Joseph it's $2 million.

Indiana is well over the salary cap, so the dead money does little to hinder them this season. They both will be off of the Pacers' books by the time the 2024-25 season comes.

The Pacers acquired Doug McDermott as well at the trade deadline, and he will stick with the team. They grabbed multiple draft picks on deadline day as well.

With one of the open roster spots, sources tell AllPacers that the Pacers plan to sign forward James Johnson, who has been with the team since mid-December. The other one will remain open for now as the Pacers only have 14 players on standard contracts.

The blue and gold were busy on deadline day, making two trades and grabbing long-term assets. Their waivers and additional moves will sort out their roster for the rest of the season.
