Clemson's Cam Cannarella named ACC Freshman of the Year

After hitting just under .400 in his first season of college baseball, Clemson OF Cam Cannarella has earned conference honors.

Clemson's run at the end of the 2023 regular season has produced some incredible moments. The Tigers ripped off 12 wins in a row to earn a spot as the No. 3 seed in the upcoming ACC tournament.

The Tigers are also in line to host a regional in the NCAA Tournament, per D1Baseball. All of that winning has been the result of some outstanding individual play from Clemson. On Monday, freshman outfielder Cam Cannarella was named the ACC's Freshman of the Year.

From Clemson Athletics: Cannarella is Clemson’s fourth ACC Freshman-of-the-Year, joining Matthew LeCroy (1995), Patrick Boyd (1998) and Seth Beer (2016).

Cannarella, who was also an All-ACC Freshman pick, joined Billy Amick (DH/UT) as First-Team All-ACC selections. Caden Grice earned Second-Team All-ACC honors as a starting pitcher and Cooper Ingle was named Third-Team All-ACC at catcher.

Cannarella is hitting .393 with five homers, a triple, 13 doubles, 39 RBIs, 64 runs, a .461 on-base percentage and 23 steals in 53 games as the everyday starter in center field. He is among the ACC leaders in batting average and runs, and he leads the ACC in steals.

Cannarella joined DH Billy Amrick as the only two Tigers to be named First Team All-ACC. Starting pitcher Caden Grice was named to the Second Team, while catcher Cooper Ingle was named to the Third Team. Clemson begins their ACC Tournament play on Wednesday in Durham against Virginia Tech, a team they swept on the road a couple of weeks back. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
