Texas-bound Robinson breaks ex-Arizona RB Carey's HS rushing mark
Texas-bound Bijan Robinson broke the Southern Arizona high school rushing record of former Arizona Wildcats running back Ka'Deem Carey on Friday night.
With Texas coach Tom Herman and Longhorns running back coach Stan Drayton in attendance in a game at Tucson High, Salpointe Catholic's Robinson scored on runs of 47, 60, 50 and 92 yards en route to 282 yards on only eight carries as the powerhouse Lancers won 62-0.
Robinson has 5,794 career rushing yards, bringing him only 84 yards shy of the Arizona big-school (Class 4A-6A) record of 5,878 set by former Tolleson standout Marcus Thomas from 1999-2002.
"It's a blessing passing (Carey's) record but you know, it doesn't stop there," Robinson told Javier Morales of our sister site, AllSportsTucson.com. "He always tells me to keep pushing, to keep working and achieve more greatness."
Robinson works out with Carey in the summer.
The Texas coaches watched from the sideline and spent time in the stands with Robinson's family.
"It's a strong relationship (with Herman and Drayton); we talk every day, just about life and football but just how we're growing as a unit," Robinson said. "I'm not there yet ... he tells me the things I need to work on and get better at for the next level."
