FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The second day of transfer portal season is here and plenty of intriguing options in lower divisions this of college football are popping up. Coach Sam Pittman made no secret of his desire to bring in another transfer quarterback this offseason.

Holy Cross quarterback Matthew Sluka has put together an electric career in the FCS ranks. The former Crusader currently ranks as the fourth best graduate transfer quarterback in the portal. Sluka has passed for 5,896 yards and 59 touchdowns against 15 interceptions the past four seasons. He can get it done on the ground as well finishing with 3,579 yards and 38 touchdowns.

Other notable programs recruiting Sluka are Baylor, Duke, Kansas, LSU, Miami, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Utah, Vanderbilt and Washington State, according to The Portal Report.

Arkansas has been very active in the transfer portal for quarterbacks since the 2019 cycle. The Razorbacks signed Nick Starkel and Ben Hicks in 2019 while Chad Morris was still head coach. Feleipe Franks transferred over from Florida in 2020 and helped first year Coach Pittman create a solid foundation. Cade Fortin walked on in 2022 after spending 2020 and 2021 at USF. Arkansas native Jacolby Criswell spent three seasons at North Carolina before transferring to Arkansas for the 2023 season. Despite not receiving much playing time this season, he is expected to compete for the starting job once KJ Jefferson moves on.

With new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino producing a rich history of elite quarterback play, there should be plenty of transfers looking Arkansas’ way this offseason. Coaching Lamar Jackson to a Heisman Trophy and another one in Ryan Mallett finishing in the Top 10 over a decade ago will not hurt his case for recruiting potential signal callers.
