Auburn stays hot on the recruiting trail adding a very talented in-state defensive prospect in D'Angelo "DJ" Barber.

Barber who plays in the Birmingham area for the Clay-Chalkville Cougars has had a very solid high school career so far racking up 86 tackles, five tackles for loss, a sack, and an interception. Barber is a prospect on the rise after showing out during the winter camp circuit and is poised to have a breakout senior season for the Cougars.

Barber, who has been offered by eight SEC schools, has most recently visited Auburn, he came in for a camp session on June 9th. The visit marks the fourth for the Tigers since they offered him in late January. The stock is most definitely rising for DJ as he has received 15 Power 5 offers since the beginning of the year. Auburn was lucky enough to get in early and secure a relationship quickly. The six-foot, two-hundred-and-twenty-pounder will play inside linebacker at the next level.

One of the key figures in this recruitment is the LB coach Josh Aldridge who has personally been in contact with Barber and has been his escort on multiple visits. Another key figure is Hugh Freeze who made sure to include Barber in team meetings and practice viewings to show the recruit what the team and players experience.

The addition of Barber makes it nine recruits that are committed to the 2024 class for the Tigers. This also moves them up from 13th in the SEC rankings to 12th. Their National ranking went from 50th to 47th according to 247 Sports.

The addition of Barber helps to add depth and talent to a linebacker room that is still desperate for both despite a very productive spring transfer window. Barber now focuses on his senior season where he and other Auburn targets like Jaylen Mbakwe and Mario Craver look to compete for the state title.
