Baylor Freshman Keyonte George Wins Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

Baylor Bears guard Keyonte George continues to dazzle during his first collegiate season.

Baylor Bears freshman guard Keyonte George has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

George averaged a combined 18.5 points this past week. The Bears won 85-56 against Nicholls on Wednesday before falling 77-62 on the road to the Iowa State Cyclones during a New Year's Eve matchup on Saturday.

George is currently Baylor's second-leading scorer this season despite playing in an elite backcourt. He's averaging 15.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals this season, as he's continued to look like one of the top freshmen in the nation.

He's now won Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice this season, which ties Kansas State Wildcats guard Keyontae Johnson for the most in the conference.

George is also the third different Baylor player to win a weekly award this season, joining guards Adam Flager and L.J. Cryer, who have both taken home Big 12 Player of the Week honors this season.

No. 19 Baylor (10-3) now gets set for a pivotal early-conference battle with the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs (12-1) in Waco on Wednesday. TCU enters as one of the hottest teams in the country, as the Frogs are currently on a 10-game winning streak.
