Baylor vs. Texas State Week 3 Staff Predictions

The staff of Inside the Bears provide their predictions for the Baylor Bears as they host Texas State on Saturday.

Baylor will try to rebound from its first loss of the 2022 season when it hosts Texas State on Saturday at 11 a.m. at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas.

Baylor (1-1) is coming off a 26-20 loss to the BYU Cougars, one of the most anticipated non-conference games of the season. The Cougars avenged their loss to the Bears in Waco last season, while Baylor felt the loss in the AP Top 25, dropping from the Top 10 to No. 17 when Sunday’s poll came out.

BYU, meanwhile, rose to No. 12 with the victory.

This will be the ninth time that the Bears and the Bobcats have played each other. The Bears have won all eight meetings. The last time the two teams met Baylor won, 29-20, in a game played in San Marcos, Texas, last season.

Texas State (1-1) is led by head coach Jake Spavital, in his third season with Texas State after a successful run as an offensive coordinator, including at Texas A&M. Texas State won last week’s game, beating FIU, 41-12.

This is Baylor’s final non-conference game. On Sept. 24 the Bears will travel to Iowa State for their Big 12 opener.

The Inside the Bears Staff provides its predictions for Saturday's game below.

Matt Galatzan, Editor In Chief: Baylor gets back on track here. Nothing fancy about it. They are the better team. Baylor 42, Texas State 10

Logan Collier, Staff Writer: Baylor needs to bounce back after its loss to BYU, and who better to bounce back against than Texas State? Baylor 35, Texas State 13

Zack Dimmitt, Staff Writer: There might not be a team more motivated to put a beating on the Bobcats than the Baylor Bears. Even with so much roster turnover for coach Dave Aranda, a 29-20 road win over Texas State to open last season was certainly disappointing and it is unlikely to repeat itself this time around. If the Bears don't beat themselves, this one should be over by halftime. Baylor 51, Texas State 17

Adam Glick, Staff Writer: Baylor is coming off a heartbreaking double-overtime loss to BYU in Week 2. They will bounce back and get a much-needed tune-up game before conference play begins next week. Baylor 41, Texas State 10

Matthew Postins, Staff Writer: The Bears are not going to be happy when they take the field against Texas State, and they’ll likely grab an early lead as they work out some of those issues from last week. Expect Texas State to hang in there a bit, but the Bears will pull away in the second half. Baylor 38, Texas State 21

Cole Thompson, Staff Writer: Baylor will rebound back home at McLane Stadium. Despite losing in Provo, the Bears remain one of the best teams in the Big 12. They’ll prove it with a double-digit win. Baylor 45, Texas State 17

Connor Zimmerlee, Staff Writer: Coming off of an upset loss to BYU on the road, the Bears will be looking to let some frustrations out. Unfortunately for Texas State, they're the team standing in the way in a game that likely won't be close. Baylor 56, Texas State 10
