Baylor Lands Walk-On Grad Transfer QB Luke Anthony

Baylor added some quarterback depth on Thursday

The Baylor Bears added some much-needed depth to the quarterback position on Thursday, with Lousiana Tech Grad Transfer Luke Anthony electing to walk on to the program.

Beginning his career in 2016 at the FCS level, Anthony was prolific on the field at Abilene Christian, throwing for 5,544 yards and 40 touchdowns with 20 interceptions as a starter in the 2018-19 seasons. He also completed 64.6 percent of his passes during that time.

Anthony completed 25 of 38 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns in a 55-27 loss to Baylor in Waco in 2018 with the Wildcats.

In 2020, Anthony transferred to the FBS level, enrolling at Lousiana Tech where he was named Conference USA Newcomer of the Year after passing for 1,479 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Anthony did not see the field for the Bulldogs in 2021, electing to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal in April following a coaching change.

Anthony now joins a Bears team that recently lost former starter Gerry Bohanan to South Florida via the transfer portal, and will be a candidate to take over the No. 2 job behind current starter Blake Shapen.

In his two starts for the Bears last season, shapen completed 62-of-86 passes on the for 595 yards, with five touchdowns and no interceptions. He also helped guide the Bears to a Sugar Bowl win over Ole Miss.
