Boston College Lands Lawrence Academy PWO Tony Muse

He may only be a walk on, but Tony Muse is a solid recruit. Hear why he chose BC over full offers from other schools.

When Boston College lands a preferred walk on, it hardly ever registers as news. This however was not the case when running back Tony Muse of Lawrence Academy (MA) committed to the Eagles earlier this week.

BC Bulletin spoke with Muse about his commitment, why he chose the Eagles, and why he went with a PWO offer instead of a school offering him a full ride.

Muse, 5-10, comes from Lawrence Academy a school that has a rich history with the Eagles. AJ Dillon, Chris Garrison and Finn Dirstine were all Spartans, while former LA coach Paul Zaukausas and current coach Jason Swepson both came from Boston College. This pipeline was important to Muse, who cited it as a reason he chose the Eagles. "I have ties, playing football with some of the players on the team now in high school effected the decision tremendously." The running clarified he played with defensive tackle Ryan Betro and tight end Joey Luchetti in high school.

The Lawrence Academy connection was not the only connection Muse had, also playing with defensive back Bryce Sebastian in youth football.

A quick running back with good speed, Muse chose Boston College's PWO offer over an offer from Michigan who had Don Brown recruiting him. "I just felt BC would be the right fit for my future,' Muse explained. Because of his status as a walk on he is still getting to know the coaches, but has a good relationship with Director of Player Personnel Joe Sullivan, who was his primary recruiter.

Muse was recruited as a running back, but as you can see from his film he could play a role on special teams at BC. Like many high school kids, he played both sides of the ball, lining up as a defensive back as well.

Landing Muse is a big deal for a few reasons. One, he is a legitimate P5 player, with good offers who is coming to Boston College. He isn't scholarship now, but if he turns out to be worthwhile he can earn it. Secondly, the Lawrence Academy pipeline as mentioned before has been important at Boston College. With four star offensive tackle Ty Chan coming down the pipe next year, who already has a huge offer sheet, it is important to keep that pipeline open.
