Boston College a Top School for DE/OLB Malachi Lawrence
Boston College made a new offer to a '21 defensive end/OLB last week. Malachi Lawrence, from Louisville, Kentucky announced his offer on Twitter.
Lawrence is a two star outside linebacker according to 247sports.com. He has offers from UCF, Boston College, Navy, Bowling Green, Ball State, and a handful of FCS schools. BC Bulletin spoke with Lawrence shortly after his offer to get a better understanding about his recruitment.
Over the last few weeks, Lawrence has been in contact with linebacker coach Sean Duggan and defensive line coach Vince Oghobaase. He had been hearing from them because they "like the way I rushed the edge, and that I would be a good part of their defense." It was Duggan, according to Lawrence who made the offer to him.
Malachi Lawrence fits the mold of a recruit who's recruitment would have exploded if COVID-19 hadn't cancelled camp season. The 6'4 259 pound senior knows what he is looking for in a program. "I am looking for a Coach that’s going to push me to my limits and help me master my technique," Malachi told BC Bulletin. "Also, I'd like a great environment that I can enjoy with the coaches and the team."
It is later in the cycle, and Lawrence has a few schools that stick out to him. "UCF and BC," he said. He is very interested in Louisville as well, his hometown school, but the Cardinals haven't offered him yet.
What is it about Boston College that has caught his attention? "What coach has informed me about it so far. I like it, seems like a great football program with a great education. I’ll have to do some research on my own about it too."
Lawrence is a tenacious defender, who plays strong and aggressively. Check out his tape above to see a better example. He looks like he could be a hybrid end/linebacker, in the same vein as a Harold Landry. It is worth noting that the Eagles landed a commitment from Quintayvious Hutchins earlier this week, and he plays the same position as Lawrence.
