Boston College Field Hockey is heading to their first ever Final Four after defeating #5 Louisville Cardinals 2-1 in Louisville, Kentucky . The game was a nail biter as the Eagles jumped out to first half lead when Elizabeth Warner redirected a penalty corner from Sky Caron with just six seconds remaining.

But Louisville responded in the 35th minute, as Bethany Russ hit a reverse to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams had opportunities in the second half and overtime, but neither could find the back of the net. Boston College goalie Sarah Dwyer had seven saves, and four huge saves in overtime to keep BC in the game.

After neither team could score in overtime it was off to penalty shots, which turned out to be full of drama. The Cardinals struck twice to start the shootout, but the Eagles stormed back with goals from Carlin, Caron and Brigid Wood. After two goals from Wood and Carlin in the second round of the shootout, Sarah Dwyer made the final save to secure the victory and send an elated Boston College to the Final Four.

All the credit goes to head coach Kelly Doton whose leadership has brought this program to an elite level. Even if they don't get the accolades that the revenue programs get, the rise and success of Field Hockey program is a great story for Boston College fans everywhere.

The Eagles will have a little time to savor this win, but they are going to prepare as they have the top ranked, defending champion University of North Carolina Tarheels who are undefeated at 21-0. They advanced to the Final Four after first defeating Stanford, and Iowa today. The Tar Heels defeated BC 3-2 in an earlier matchup this year in a game BC was in control of until the fourth quarter.

The two teams will face off on Friday November 23.
