Van Der Baan is a 3* recruit out of Northbridge MA, and had some mid level offers from St. Bonaventure, East Carolina, USF and George Mason. He clearly fills a big need for BC and should immediately fill the gap at center after Nik Popovic graduates this year.
The 7'0 Van Der Baan is part of the AAU team Mass Rivals, which in itself is big news for the Eagles. For years BC has struggled to get local AAU kids, and have been shut out for a while recruiting them. If Scott Spinelli has reopened that pipeline there are some more recruits that could be interested in BC and possibly make the 2020 class one of the best BC has ever had. Demarr Langford (brother of recent transfer Makai) and Jordan Geronimo are both Top 100 recruits, and both are apparently visiting BC. Being able to grab these AAU players could really take BC basketball up a notch and bring their recruiting to a whole new level which should be exciting for fans.
