Cal is one of several schools that have shown an intertest in Texas' interim head coach Rodney Terry for their vacant head coaching ;positions, according to Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman.

Here are a few paragraphs of Bohls' story in the American Statesman:

Texas men's basketball interim head coach Rodney Terry, who has guided the Longhorns to their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2008, is being pursued for head coaching openings at both Penn State and California, a source with knowledge of the situation told the American-Statesman on Wednesday.

Texas Tech also had Terry on its list of candidates, but now is focusing its search on North Texas' Grant McCasland, according to the source.

Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte has said he is “absolutely” considering Terry for the permanent position, but per his policy will make no such decisions until after the Longhorns' season has ended. Terry could not be reached for comment.

It is unclear how serious Cal is regarding its interest in Terry, but the competition to hire him apparently will be stiff. Cal is looking for a replacement for Mark Fox, who was fired after the Bears went 3-29 this past season.

The Sporting News recently named Terry the national coach of the year.

The Longhorns (28-8) were scheduled to face Xavier in Kansas City on Friday night in a Sweet 16 game. Texas won the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, beating Kansas by a wide margin for the second straight time.

Terry was named acting head coach of the Longhorns in mid-December, then was named the team's interim head coach for the remainder of the season in early January.

He replaced Chris Beard, who was arrested in December for felony domestic violence charges and later fired by Texas.
