Cal Track & Field: Caisa-Marie Lindfors Cracks 17-Year-Old Women's Discus Mark

Lindfors prevailed at at the Stanford Invitational with a throw of 201 feet, 4 inches that ranks second among collegiate throwers this season.

Caisa-Marie Lindfors broke Cal’s 17-year-old program record in the women’s discus at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday with a winning throw of 201 feet, 4 inches that ranks second among collegiate throwers this season.

A redshirt junior transfer from Florida State, Lindfors crushed Kelechi Anyanwu’s 2007 Cal record of 189-2 by more than 12 feet.

"Caisa was outstanding today," Cal throws coach Mohamad Saatara said.  "It's always nice to open your season with a PR.”

Her throw places her 14th on the early-season world list.

A native of Uppsala, Sweden, Lindfors represented her homeland at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. She was the Swedish discus champion in 2021 and ’23, also finishing fourth at the 2023 NCAA championships while competing for Florida State.

Lindfors' first throw of 193-2 broke the Cal record and she improved that to 195-5 on her next attempt, before recording her top mark on her final throw of the competition.

Lindsfors’ record came on the heels of Cal setting five program records during the recently completed indoor season: David Foster in the 60 meters (6.54), Skyler Magula in the pole vault (18-1 3/4), Rowan Hamilton in the weight throw (73-4), Majhaila Mills in the women’s 60 (7.26) and Lindsfors in the women’s shot put (54-2 3/4).

Cal dominated the women’s hammer throw competition at Stanford, sweeping the top four spots.

Sixth-year senior Kayla Racine, a transfer from South Carolina who sat out the 2023 season due to injury, delivered a winning throw of 193-11. She improved her mark on all six of her throws.

Freshman Adrianna Colmen was second (188-2), junior Destiny Okoh was third (186-9) and Jasmine Blair was fourth (185-4).

Meanwhile, at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Cal’s 4x100 men’s relay team recorded the the program’s fastest time in 49 years. The foursome of Chase Williams, George Monroe, Mason Mangum and Foster placed third with a time of 39.31 that ranks second on the Bears’ all-time list and is tied for the 11th-fastest this season in the NCAA.

The Bears’ school record of 39.11, featuring future NFL star Wesley Walker running the anchor, has stood since 1975.

Foster placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.11 that would be a school record except that it was wind-aided. The junior resides at No. 2 on Cal’s career list with a legal mark of 10.24.

Likewise, senior Jada Hicks broke the 13-second barrier in the women’s 100 hurdles for the first time, albeit also with a wind-assisted time of 12.99 that was good for third place. Her legal best of 13.04, run last season, stands No. 2 on Cal’s career list.
