GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson shortstop Logan Davidson has been recognized as the 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team announced on Tuesday.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Davidson’s selection by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of last month’s Major League Baseball Draft capped a 2018-19 academic year in which he excelled on the field and in the classroom.

The switch-hitting Davidson batted .291 with 15 homers, two triples, 18 doubles, 55 RBIs, 55 runs scored, a .412 on-base percentage, 17 steals and a .969 fielding percentage in 61 games as a team co-captain. He also reached base in 59 games and had a 56-game on-base streak.

Davidson was named a 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-American, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), after earning a management degree from Clemson in just six semesters. He earned an “A” in every class but one as an undergraduate while posting a 3.99 GPA.

Davidson was named Clemson’s top male ACC Scholar-Athlete (for all sports). The Charlotte, North Carolina, native was previously selected in the 30th round of 2016 MLB Draft by the Phillies out of Providence High School, where he was named the North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior. His father, Mark, also starred at Clemson and played six seasons in the Major Leagues as an outfielder with the Minnesota Twins and Houston Astros.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released later this month.
