Report: 5-star linebacker Sammy Brown trending toward Clemson

Clemson has become the clear favorite to land top-rated linebacker Sammy Brown.

Clemson is still waiting for a spark to ignite a run in their 2024 recruiting class. The Tigers are currently ranked 20th by 247Sports, 14th by On3. Only one current commit, TE Christian Bentancur, is ranked as a top-100 recruit. According to multiple reports on Sunday, that spark could be arriving soon.

Sammy Brown, the No. 1 ranked linebacker in the 2024 class, is trending toward Clemson, per multiple industry insiders. It started with Steve Wiltfong, 247's Director of Football Recruiting, crystal-balling Brown to Clemson. Shortly after, Chad Simmons of On3 also said the Tigers "are trending in the right direction for 5-star LB Sammy Brown.

We caught up with Brown at the beginning of May as he began spring practice at Jefferson high school in northeast Georgia. He spoke on his relationship with Clemson's coaching staff. "It's another really strong relationship. Coach [Wes] Goodwin and Coach [Dabo] Sweeney have been there... I mean, even before I got the offer, it's just been a really strong relationship with them. They've got a really good culture, and they've always been historically good on defense."

Brown would be the highest-rated inside linebacker commit for Clemson ever and a top-10 prospect all-time. He'll reportedly announce his commitment at the beginning of July. "I think kind of the first week of July is what I'm shooting for just to get it over with and focus on senior year," said Brown.
