Cody Williams has the potential to be Colorado’s next lottery pick

An impressive performance from the freshman

Cody Williams has all the tools and abilities to flourish into Colorado’s next NBA superstar. There’s definitely legitimate reasons to believe, the 18 year old freshman, could become the highest selected Buffs draft pick since 1997. In that year, Chauncey Billups was taken third overall in the NBA draft.

In just his second game as a collegiate player, Williams scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Cody gained some experience under head coach Tad Boyle as a member of the U19 United States basketball World Cup team. “It was great to see Cody come out aggressive. He’s obviously a special player.” said Boyle.

The coach went on to say, “Cody’s not the kind of kid that gets nervous, at least I don’t think. But it was his first college game. The thing I love about him is that he makes the right plays…if you just do that, the game’s pretty easy. I’ve seen Cody do that since I started coaching him this summer. Tonight he was aggressive, which is great. We want him to continue to be aggressive.”

Cody Williams talked about being much more relaxed in his second game. “I definitely felt a little more comfortable tonight. Just kinda watching film, talking to my teammates, seeing what they see out there. So for me, it was kind of go out there, play my game and be aggressive...so I think that just allowed me to get into my groove and play basketball.”

Colorado returns to action Monday night against the Richmond Spiders at the Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach, Florida.
