CU Buffs Basketball: Tad Boyle not happy with second place Sunshine Slam finish

Sloppy play and poor shooting contribute to overtime loss.

Colorado departs Daytona Beach with a 4-1 record. It was an over abundance of turnovers and missed shots that led to a less than satisfying result.

Colorado certainly had their chances. They fought back from a second half double-digit deficit and took a late lead, only to run out of gas in overtime.

“There were no positive takeaways tonight,” said Buffs Head Coach, Tad Boyle. “It was a good experience, [in Daytona Beach] but we came down here to win a tournament, we didn’t win the tournament and we’re disappointed about that.”

KJ Simpson and J’Vonne Hadley shared similar thoughts after the game.

“We turned the ball over twenty something times…when you do that, it’s hard to beat anybody. We just got to take care of the ball, watch film, do what we have to do, and get back to it on Sunday,” said Hadley.

KJ Simpson added, “I put this loss on myself…I’m the point guard on the floor. I’m supposed to get everybody in the right spots….I just have to be a better leader for the team, and settle us down when they’re trying to get us going and get us out of our game,” said Simpson.

Colorado returns home to face Iona on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
