No. 5 Colorado Buffaloes set to battle 8th-ranked Stanford

The Buffs face the Cardinal in a Sunday afternoon top ten clash

The Colorado women’s basketball team (14-1, 4-0 Pac-12) is set to tipoff against Stanford at 2:00 p.m. ET from CU Event Center. It is arguably the toughest challenge yet for the Buffs, who are on an eight-game winning streak. The Cardinal (15-1, 4-0 Pac-12) is also on a tear with seven consecutive wins.

Stanford Head Coach Tara VanDerveer is one win shy of tying Duke legend Mike Krzyzewski as the all-time win leader in NCAA history. She will go for victory number 1,202 vs. Buffaloes, which will be a huge moment in sports history.

Colorado’s JR Payne spoke about VanDerveer’s impact on women’s basketball.

“When people talk about GOATs, she really is the best ever,” said Payne. “A lot of people don’t know how much she’s done to prop women up in this profession…she’s not just about herself and her program, she’s lifted other people up and I think that’s just as impactful of a legacy as the wins.”

Colorado's last game was a solid showing with a 76-61 win against Cal on Friday. Aaronette Vonleh led the team in scoring with 19 points. She'll look to continue this trend as she averages 15.7 points per game.

Jaylyn Sherrod has been the best passer on the team with an average of 5.7 assists to go along with 13.9 points per game. Quay Miller is a powerhouse in her own right,  averaging 7.3 rebounds and 9.9 points per game.

Colorado looks to stay perfect in Pac-12 play and enters a home trifecta against top ten teams. Stanford will be a warm-up before No. 2 UCLA and No. 9 USC later this week.
