Cam Newton says Travis Hunter needs “measured for gold jacket,” if he plays both ways in NFL

Travis Hunter is a generational talent, but he actually might be in a league of his own. The Colorado Buffaloes standout is on track to be the first NFL player featured on both sides of the ball.

It was a topic that recently came up on Cam Newton’s 4th and 1 podcast and he gave Hunter one of the best compliments when talking about his talents.

Following a clip of Deion Sanders saying he would pull an “Eli,” Newton was asked his thoughts on who would go first and gave his insight. “Obviously, Travis… He’s electric. Where can’t he play?”

“We’ve never seen that happen, and will he play both ways in the NFL?” Newton added, “It’s hard to cover a guy like Tyreek Hill and then turn around and get covered by a Jalen Ramsey.” Suggesting that he wasn’t sure if Hunter could do both. If he could, Cam interjected, “Go on and get measured. Get measured for your jacket. Go on and get measured for your gold jacket.”

The biggest question Newton had was mostly longevity if Hunter played both ways. “How long could he do it? That’s a lot of plays.” Cam went on to talk about Hunter’s character. “(He’s) a Coachable kid, lovable guy. This is the thing about Travis, he gets it. All he wants to do is play football. An honorable kid. That’s why I believe he will go number one. Anybody with that rapport, that nobody has anything bad to say about. That’s why I believe he will go number one.”

Mad props from the former NFL MVP and suffice to say he knows what he is talking about. Cam has a history with Travis, who came up through Newton’s ‘C1N’ camps. Hunter, who was named last year’s Paul Hornung Award winner, looks to take another step forward this season with the Buffs. Seemingly on his way to a storied career in the NFL, no matter what position(s) he plays.
