Deion Sanders won't be attending Pac-12 Media Day

Another health setback for Coach Prime

Deion Sanders announced Wednesday he would undergo another surgery on his foot and miss Pac-12 Media Day. The news was first reported by Well Off Media and Thee Pregame Show.

"I apologize that I am not going to be at the Pac-12 Media day," Sanders said to Thee Pregame Show. "I have to have another surgery (Thursday). One on my (right) leg to remove other clots."

With the help of CU associate athletic trainer Lauren Askevold, Prime went on to explain the process of straightening out two toes on his left foot. He started to describe a future surgery to fix dislocations in the same area. It was the first time Sanders gave the public a look at his foot while describing the process in detail.

"I promise you when we go out to TCU, I'm running out in front of our team," Sanders said. "I promise you that."

Colorado's head football coach had a successful operation to remove blood clots from both legs about a month ago. The 55-year-old Sanders initially had a procedure to amputate two toes in his left foot while at Jackson State.

"Unfortunately, his recovery will preclude him from attending Pac-12 media day, but he is fully expected to be back coaching in time for fall camp," Colorado's athletic department said in a statement. "Everyone at CU wishes Coach a fast recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on campus soon."

It's the latest setback for Coach Prime, who took over in Boulder eight months ago. He was told about another possible procedure while consulting with a team of three doctors eariler last month.

Colorado defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will join quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive back Travis Hunter on the Pac-12's main stage in Las Vegas on Friday.
