Watch: Coach K on Tre Jones' Injury and Status

Point guard went down during Duke's win.

Duke’s 105-54 win over Central Arkansas was overshadowed by a potential injury to sophomore point guard Tre Jones.

With Duke already leading by a large margin in the first half, Jones collided with a CAU player while going after a loose ball. He went to the floor and appeared to be in a great deal of pain.

After a short time, Jones was able to walk to the bench under his own power but appeared to be suffering from discomfort. He didn’t warm up for the second half or return to the game.

“Tre, when he had that collision, he got hit,” coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “They butted heads and he got hit on the temple. He was pretty good at halftime, but we decided just obviously not to play him.”

It doesn’t appear that the injury will keep Jones shelved for any significant time.

“He looks pretty good now,” Krzyzewski said. “I don’t think there’ll be a problem. He’s laughing and joking. I asked him if he knew my name and he said ‘Michael’, which was kind of bold on his part. Maybe he’ll get even more assertive as a result of that. Good stuff.”

Krzyzewski praised the rest of the team, who stepped up in Jones’ absence.

Backup point guard Jordan Goldwire, who helped trigger Duke’s pressure defense while on the floor with Jones before the injury, went on to score nine points with four assists and three steals.

“Goldwire did a really good job. Even before Tre got hurt,” Krzyzewski said.
