Jon Scheyer mentioned in August that his 2023-24 Duke basketball team would likely have more than one captain but that the staff and players hadn't made any final decisions yet.

Now, practice is officially underway this week. And listening to one of the second-year head coach's statements in the following practice clips that the program posted on social media on Tuesday night, it sounds like the Blue Devils have already named three co-captains:

Granted, Scheyer doesn't specify which players he's talking to when referring to "the three of you guys, captains."

However, it seems sophomore guard Tyrese Proctor was in the frame when Scheyer made that comment. Pair that with what the 36-year-old said about him, last year's lone captain in now-senior guard Jeremy Roach, and graduate center Ryan Young last month when Blue Devil Country asked him about the captain outlook.

"Ryan is very vocal," Scheyer explained. "He's the ultimate teammate...Tyrese has taken more of a leadership role coming back. Just with what he went through, I think he can have a lot of empathy for our freshmen because he just went through it. And, of course, Jeremy, with his experience.

"Those three guys, in all different ways, have done a really good job of just leading, communicating, setting the tone for what we need to do."

Friday is Duke basketball media day, so chances are Scheyer will confirm what looks to be the 2023-24 tri-captains then.

The last time the Duke basketball program had three captains for a season was in 2019-20: then-sophomore guard Tre Jones, senior forward Jack White, and senior forward Javin DeLaurier.

Scheyer and his Blue Devils tip off their season in 40 days when Dartmouth arrives in Durham on Nov. 6.
