Western Illinois Makes Head Coaching Change After Winless Season

Western Illinois will officially part ways with head coach Myers Hendrickson after only two seasons.

Hendrickson was hired prior to the 2022 season but failed to revive the Western Illinois program. The Leathernecks were 0-22 over the past two seasons, including losing 10 of 11 games by 10 points or more this season.

Hendrickson was hired after an extremely successful stint as the head coach at Kansas Wesleyan. He was 31-5 over three seasons, including two runs to the NAIA quarterfinals.

Western Illinois has only two winning seasons since 2009, which adds to the importance of the next hire for this program.

"After careful consideration and evaluation of our Leatherneck football program, I have determined that a change in leadership is a necessary step to move the program forward," Director of Athletics Paul A. Bubb announced. "I want to thank Coach Hendrickson for his service to Western Illinois University and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Linebackers coach Brandon Kreczmer will serve as the interim head coach.
