Blue-Chip OL Fletcher Westphal Includes Gators in Top 5

The Florida Gators remain firmly in the mix for blue-chip offensive tackle prospect Fletcher Westphal.

Florida Gators offensive line target Fletcher Westphal trimmed his list of contending programs in his recruitment to five on Sunday afternoon.

Leesburg (Va.) native placed Florida alongside Arkansas. Auburn, Clemson and Georgia as the teams moving forward in the battle for his services.

“Grateful for the relationships I’ve built over the last year,” he said in his post to Twitter. “Thank you to every coach that has poured into me. I can’t thank you enough.”

Standing at 6-foot-7, 305 pounds, Westphal fits the mold of size the Gators have targeted while pursuing exterior offensive line talent under the current regime.

Possessing length, power, quickness off the snap and a mean streak, Westphal would be an ideal piece to fill one of the voids in UF’s offensive tackle corps at the moment.

Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton have pushed the four-star prospect, ranked as the No. 223 prospect nationally, accordingly as a result. They’ll look to close on him over the trio of other SEC schools and the decade-long ACC powerhouse vying for his talents.

The Gators currently hold seven commits in their 2024 class, headline by quarterback DJ Lagway and safety Xavier Filsaime. However, no offensive linemen has pledged themselves to Florida at this stage, leaving Lagway unprotected for the future.

As a result, while UF trends for a bevy of skill position talent on both sides of the ball, anchoring the offensive trenches with talented players — especially bookend tackles — will be the top priority.

Westphal falls into that category.
