Zavier Mincey, holding offers from 30 Division-I programs, has a wealth of collegiate options to choose from while weighing his football future.

On Tuesday, the Mainland High defensive back made a crucial step toward said future as he narrowed his focus to ten schools. Mincey named the Florida Gators alongside Alabama, Colorado, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and UCF as the teams moving forward in his recruitment process.

"I love the idea of playing close to home," he told the Daytona Beach News-Jorunal about UF as he broke down each potential suitor. "I think about all the greats and the legacy Florida has. The coaches always show me love and make it known that I am a top priority. I plan on taking my first official visit to Florida the second weekend of June."

Mincey — a versatile defensive back whose garnered projections to assume the safety spot at the next level — has quickly aligned as a top cornerback prospect for Gators secondary coach Corey Raymond in the 2024 cycle.

Looking to equip the unit with long-limbed, fast and physical athletes to combat opposing wideouts on the outside, Florida's aggressively pursued the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Mainland, Fla. product since extending an offer in June 2022.

As a multi-sport athlete who participates in football, basketball and track and field, Mincey matches the criteria used by Raymond when searching for prospective talent for the position. He outlined the checklist of items he cherishes during a media availability this spring.

"Well, you always want to look for speed," he said on March 21. "You want to look for a guy that's twitchy, a guy that does multiple different things in high school, that runs track, that does a lot of different things.

"You look for that. That's when you get the ingredients. Now you've gotta cook it."

The renowned DBs coach and UF hope to add the ingredients Mincey provides to a promising pot of prospects already in the fold in the secondary in the 2024 class. It sits in a favorable spot to cash in on that endeavor.

The Gators get an opportunity to further impress the in-state standout June 9-11 as he visits the program officially. Miami is the only other school set to host Mincey at this time, earning his presence for a multi-day stay June 23-25.
