Priority Gators Recruit LJ McCray Announcing Commitment Saturday

Florida will soon know the college decision of one of its top recruiting targets from the class of 2024, regardless of position.

Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland defensive lineman LJ McCray plans to announce his pledge around 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, according to 247Sports. McCray is set to choose one of Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia and Auburn.

It is currently unclear if McCray will stream his commitment live.

Florida has pursued McCray's pledge for some time, originally sending the big-bodied defensive lineman a scholarship offer in June 2022. He's visited the program seven times since, including an official trip from June 2-4 before returning on July 26 and again for UF's matchup with Tennessee on Sept. 16.

"It was definitely a very cool experience. I liked it a lot. We learned a lot," McCray told All Gators about the multi-day stay. "The biggest part I probably took away was spending time with the players. I was basically a college student almost for two days. It was really cool experience."

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound McCray is considered the No. 16 defensive lineman and No. 106 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by the 247Sports composite rankings, although 247Sports' own grading system views McCray as a five-star prospect and the No. 2 defensive lineman in the cycle.

Should McCray team up with the Gators, he'd join linemen, Dublin (Ga.) High's Nasir Johnson and Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz's Kendall Jackson, and edge rushers, Picayune (Miss.) Memorial's Jamonta Waller and Clinton (N.C.) High's Amaris Williams, as commitments on the defensive front in Florida's 2024 recruiting class.
