Recruit Roundup: Gators Week 5 Standouts and Highlights

Which Florida Gators commits stood out during the Week 5 prep action?

Week 5 of the high school football season is in the books, and while four commits were not in action due to their schools having bye weeks, several put up impressive numbers during their action.

In this weeks recruit roundup by All Gators, a few familiar names pair alongside a player making his first appearance in the weekly series.

DJ Lagway, Willis (Tx.)

Realistically, DJ could be on this list every week as he continues to put up video game like numbers for Willis as they remain undefeated through five games.

On Friday night, Lagway went 18-for-24 (75%) for 335 yards and six touchdown passes, while adding 41 yards and another score on six carries.

Lagway, along with the help of a talented WR corps made up of Debraun Hampton, Jermaine Bishop, A'mauree Holmes, and Jalen Mickens, continues to propel a Wildkats team looking to record its first winning season since 2016.

On the season, the talented signal-caller has completed 73.7 percent of his passes for an eye-popping 1,592 yards, 23 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He's also been productive with his legs, racking up 248 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Jamonta Waller, Picayune (Miss.)

Waller continues to be a menace off the edge for the Maroon Tide and while they fell a bit short of the victory on Friday night, the Gators commit certainly made his presence felt.

Waller tallied eight total tackles, including three for loss and two sacks on the night. You can see both his sacks in the clips below.

On the year Waller has racked up 33 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

Teddy Foster, Cardinal Mooney (Fla.)

Foster cracks the standout list for the first time this season in his teams blowout 60-0 victory of Space Coast HS.

While overall game stats are not yet available, All Gators was able to find that Foster made his way to the end zone two times on Friday night; once on offense on a 25-yard reception and once on defense with a 35-yard pick six.

Foster has turned in a successful senior season to this point, even though teams have notably avoided him in the passing game. Through four weeks (because stats for week five aren't available yet for his team) the talented coverage man has accumulated 10 tackles, two tackles for loss and three pass breakups on defense. Offensively, he has 13 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Those numbers will obviously be adjusted once Friday nights stats are made public, which will now include an interception and touchdown.

Find out more about Foster's skillset in his All Gators Scouting Report

At the prep level, Foster operates in a lot of off-man and zone coverage schemes, excelling when he is able to have his eye in the backfield on the passer. That's not to say he can't play press-man — something he’ll be required to do at Florida — as he possesses the prototypical stature and skill set to prove more than adequate in that area.
