Gators Land Commitment From Safety Josiah Davis

High-choice Gators safety target Josiah Davis pledges to the Florida Gators.

The Florida Gators have landed the commitment of high-choice safety prospect Josiah Davis, the prospect announced in a Monday ceremony, locking down a high-upside piece for the future of the secondary in late March.

The Nashville, Ga., native chose the Gators over offers from 15 other programs, including Kentucky, Louisville, NC State and Tennessee.

Davis operates on both sides of the ball for Berrien High School, showcasing the elite-level athleticism that lured the Gators into pursuing his talents heavily.

While he operates mainly on the offensive side of the ball — excelling at any skill position he's placed — there is significant upside for Davis at safety at the next level. Florida views him as one of the top safeties on its board and will look to capitalize on his mix of ball skills in free range and aptitude for tackling in the open field.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds and running an 11.21 100-meter dash as a junior, Davis meets the criteria secondary coach Corey Raymond recently laid out for recruiting members of the back end.

"Well, you always want to look for speed," Raymond said. "That's one thing, you want to look for speed. You want to look for a guy that's twitchy. You want to make sure [it's] a guy that does multiple different things in high school, that runs track, that does a lot of different things.

"That's when you get the ingredients. Now you've gotta cook it."

Davis presents those proverbial ingredients, and the man with one of the best DB development recipes in college football will be the chef.

He becomes Florida's fifth commit in the 2024 class, joining a slew of blue chips already occupying foundational spots. Quarterback DJ Lagway headlines the quartet, with running back Chauncey Bowens and linebackers Myles Graham and Adarius Hayes rounding out the commitment class.

Davis kickstarts the Gators hope to continue adding valuable pieces to an already impressive lineup this spring.
