Former FSU Player, OL Coach Suing Florida State

Greg Frey's collegiate career began as a Florida State player in the 1990s, and it began with a bang, as he was a member of FSU's first national championship team in 1993. After his days on the gridiron concluded, he transitioned immediately to the sideline, taking assistant coach jobs at South Florida, West Virginia, Indiana, and Michigan, before he found his way back to Florida State as Willie Taggart's offensive line coach in 2018. And now after being fired following just one year in that position, Frey is on his way to Tallahassee again. Well, a Tallahassee courtroom, perhaps.
According to a report from the Tallahassee Democrat, Frey has filed a lawsuit against FSU, and "is seeking $632,150 plus the expenses for reasonable cell phone use, expenses for obtaining private health insurance, lost retirement benefits, and the value of FSU football tickets – all in an amount to be proven at trial, and all legally allowable pre-and post-judgement interest. He is also seeking reimbursement for attorney fees."
At the crux of the matter here is what Frey agreed to and what was put in writing and signed-- or not signed. Frey is alleging that the deal was for two years, and Taggart assured him he'd retain his position for 2019. Frey says Taggart dissuaded him from attending an AFCA convention to look for another position; meanwhile, Taggart and FSU were negotiating with Randy Clements, his eventual replacement. As you'll recall, those negotiations took quite some time, and Frey's allegation is that that span precluded him from securing other employment. He's now the OL coach at Duke.
